Master Jim Andrews
After eight years in the military, Jim's first lesson in
the martial arts was in Chicago in 1965 in Karate. After more
intensive training starting in the 1980s, Jim has received black
belts in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Bubo Bujitsu, Karate, and Kyuki-Do,
and has been practicing the art of Chi Kung for the last 20 years.
Jim is a ten time Grand Champion in weapons and forms in national
Kyuki-Do tournaments.
Jim holds the following ranks:
Jim Andrews is a nationally certified instructor in martial arts,
women's rape prevention and awareness and real world self-defense,
and a member of the American Women's Self Defense Association (www.awsda.org). Jim
currently trains under his mentors Grandmaster Phil Messina of
Modern Warrior (www.mwarrior.com),Grandmaster John Pellegrini www.ichf.com and Karate Grandmaster
Rick Moneymaker. Jim also studies the art of Chi Kung under Sifu
John Ferrante at the Shen Dao Temple. In 2004 Jim and the School
was awarded the Community Spirit Award by the Juvenile Officer's
Association for his hard work with Youth and families to provide a
Healthy and Wholesome Environment.
Robin Andrews (All Around Instructor)
Robin has been training since 1985 at 6 years old. He
received his first black belt at 14, and began instructing the
martial arts in 1992. Robin also holds black belts in Tae Kwon Do,
Bubo Bujitsu, Karate, and Kyuki-Do, and earned over 40 trophies
including four Grand Champion in seven years of semi-annual Kyuki-Do
tournaments. Robin graduated in June 2002 from The University of
Chicago and graduated in 2005 from Boston University School of Law.

Tracey D. Goodyear (Youth & Hapkido

Tracey has studied martial arts for 17
years. Tracey has channeled the discipline and spirituality
she has gained from studying martial arts into her career as a
police officer. Tracey has been involved in law enforcement
for 19 years and she is currently a supervisor in the Patrol
Division.
Tracey has worked with young people who have
suffered through substance abuse, physical abuse, and emotional
abuse. Through her experience as a juvenile specialist she has
had the opportunity to work with many young adults in addressing
self esteem issues. Tracey graduated from Southern Illinois
University in 1989. Tracey graduated with her Master’s
Degree from Roosevelt University.

Thomas P. O'Connell (Youth & Hapkido

Tom has been married for 19 years and has two
young daughters. Tom has been studying Martial Arts for the
past 20 years. Tom started studying Shorei Goju-Ryu Karate in
1981 after high school. Tom has been a full time police
officer for the past 16 years and is currently in the Patrol
Division. He has had the privilege of working with numerous
middle school kids through the D.A.R.E. program. Tom also
spends time promoting the A.W.S.D.A. Women’s Self Defense
Organization. Tom currently teaches youth Tae Kwon Do classes
and adult Hapkido at Lake Zurich Family Martial Arts.

Nancy Wickersham
(School Coordinator )
Nancy has worked with youth and their families for the
last 18 years. She has been a clinical coordinator of a residential
treatment center for 16 of those years. Nancy has a degree in
counseling and is a licensed Addiction Counselor. She has
specialized in working with youth and their families on self-esteem
and family issues. Nancy will be utilizing her experience at the
school by holding family educational classes for parents. She is
always available to the students and their families to discuss on
going life challenges.
Nancy's compassion and love for youth of all ages
makes her a huge asset to our school.
Mike Van Zuiden
(Instructor)
Michael Van
Zuiden started his martial arts with Judo and Karate in his youth,
though he received only a taste of each. While learning
Tae Kwon Do at Lake Zurich Family Martial Arts in 1999, Master Jim
Andrews introduced Mike to the art of Chi Gung. A year later, Mike
started his Tai Chi Chuan training under the tutelage of the late
Tai Chi Master Tom Lauterburg. Then in 2003, with Tom's
recommendation, Mike sought additional training partners with Tai
Chi Master George Bolger at Arlington Aikikai and Tai Chi Tao
Center, Oak Park, IL. With nine years of training, Mike continues
his study of both the martial and healing aspects of Tai Chi. He is
currently studying the Yang Style Sword Form and Dim Mak. He is
certified as a Rei-ki Master and Tai Chi Instructor. In
addition, Mike has taken several seminars with Master Wayson Liao,
world-renowned author of "T'ai Chi Classics", "Chi: How To Feel Your
Life Energy" and "Nine Nights With A Taoist Master". Mike has
traveled to Seattle to practice with the International Yang Family
Tai Chi Chuan Association. Mike currently teaches Tai Ci Chuan at
Lake Zurich Family Martial Arts and at the Motorola Wellness
Center.
Robert D. Johnson (Hapkido
Instructor)

Bob began studying Shotokan Karate while
attending Illinois Wesleyan University. Bob began his career
in law enforcement in 1995 following his graduation. Bob has
been a police officer for 13 years and he is currently
a Sergeant in the Patrol Division. Bob trained
as a boxer for a short time before he began studying Hapkido.
Bob has been a defensive tactics instructor at his agency since
1997.

Colin Treacy (Senior Instructor)
Mr. Colin Treacy has been studying the Martial Arts
for over 10+ years. When I first started out, Martial Arts was an
addition to my normal workout. Martial Arts has bloomed into a
greater physical, mental & spiritual awareness. "I can apply
these things I have learned in the Martial Arts to help me in my
Career & Marriage, such as Patience, Humility, Confidence &
Perseverance".
While traveling for a living, Mr.Treacy works out at
Martial Arts schools across the country and shares different
techniques and philosophies with LZFMA.
Mr.Treacy is an instructor at
LZFMA.

Jim Deagon (Staff
Instructor)

Mr. Jim Deagan has been
studying the martial arts for 12 years. He began his
martial arts training at Lake Zurich Family Martial Arts in
1997. He earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2002, and
became an LZFMA instructor that same year.

Autumn began studying Tae Kwon Do in 2002.
Although she didn't start out at LZFMA. It is now like a second home
to her. She has been teaching the Ninja's for over
three years now and could not think of anything she would like
do more. Autumn hopes to continue working on her Third Dan

Karley (Senior Teen Instructor)

Karley began studying Tae Kwon Do in 1999. She
enjoys working with the Ninja Program and in the youth classes, and
hopes to become a master black belt. She also enjoys all the
friends she has made, and continues to make new ones. Karley
received here Black belt in 2004.

David began studying Tae Kwon Do in 2001. Before
David received his Black Belt, he was on the Role Model team and
Leadership team. He has been teaching for about five years.
David hopes to continue his training and one day become a Master. He
also enjoys teaching and would like to open his own Dojo when he
gets older.
