Safe Daughters™

Safe Daughters is a not-for-profit organization established to educate young women about rape prevention and awareness. Safe Daughters goal is to empower young women to defend themselves against sexual assault and violence. Safe Daughters, through local junior high schools, provides a series of rape prevention and awareness and street self-defense classes.

Rape Prevention and Awareness Program

Safe Daughters Rape Prevention and Awareness Program is taught to young women in eighth grade and high school.

Safe Daughters instructors are AWSDA (American Women's Self Defense Association) Certified Rape Prevention Instructors.

Rape Statistics

The statistics are staggering:

  • Once every forty-five seconds a woman is sexually assaulted in the United States
  • A woman who has been sexually assaulted knows her assailant 80% to 90% of the time
  • Only 10% of all sexual assaults are reported every year
  • You can increase your chances of averting a sexual assault 80% by fighting back
  • Parking lots are playground for the bad guys

The American Medical Association calls sexual assault in the United States a "silent-violent epidemic".

Myths

  • Kicking a man in the groin is the best technique
  • Women are too passive to defend themselves
  • A woman is no match for a man in self-defense
  • A woman should stop with one strike to a vulnerable area
  • Women should not carry weapons because they could be taken away
  • A woman is helpless if her arms are secured by her attacker
  • A woman cannot effectively defend herself on the ground
  • Body language is not important to self-defense
  • You cannot control your fear when assaulted
